When Everyday Tasks Feel Like Hard Work.
Do your kitchen cupboards ever feel like more effort than they should?
That’s exactly how one of my lovely clients – an 80-something homeowner – described her kitchen when we met.
Too many items. Not enough space. Cupboards that’d become difficult to access.
She thought the problem was a lack of storage.
But as is often the case, the real issue wasn’t the space – it was how the space was being used.
The Challenge: Cupboards Full, Patience Thin
Over the years, layers of items had built up.
Duplicates, out-of-date food, old gadgets tucked away “just in case.”
Every time she tried to find something, it felt like a juggling act – moving things around in her overfilled cupboards. Plus, bending or stretching to reach what she needed was becoming an issue.
What she really needed wasn’t more storage or a new kitchen; it was a space that worked for her life as it is now.
The Process: One Session, Big Change
In just one hands-on session, we completely re-mapped her kitchen, so it worked efficiently for her daily needs. Less bending, less reaching, creating an effortless functional space that works.
Here’s what we did:
✅ Re-organised the cupboards so everything was easy to access
✅ Cleared out-of-date food, duplicates, and unused items – instantly freeing up space
✅ Grouped like-with-like, so she could easily see what she had
✅ Rehomed everyday essentials within comfortable reach
And here’s the part that always makes me smile…
Not only did she not need more storage, but by the end of our session, she actually had an empty cupboard!
Her words:
“It feels like a new kitchen! It’s so much lighter, and now I can see everything.”
She especially loved her new plate drawer – something she’d never seen before; less stacking, less bending, and so much easier to use.
Beyond the Cupboards: Respect and Connection
For me, these sessions are never just about storage.
They’re about listening, caring, and creating calm – especially for my older clients, who often tell me that when people come into their homes, they feel rushed, dismissed or even ignored.
I always want my clients to feel heard, respected, and supported, while still achieving a transformation that makes a real difference in their daily lives.
We chatted and laughed as we worked, and by the time I left, her kitchen wasn’t just organised – it felt lighter.
…and she’d already booked me to come back to sort her wardrobes next 🙂
Why This Story Matters
You don’t need a brand-new kitchen to make life easier. Sometimes all it takes is a few simple, thoughtful changes to restore calm and control.
If your kitchen (or someone you love’s) feels like hard work, I can help you create a lighter, calmer, easier space to use – every single day.
